Youth councillor named

Vaughan’s newest representative, Sabrina Bruno, took up her post as Vaughan’s youth city councillor last Monday.

Though she’s the fourth to serve in the role, the Father Bressani Catholic High School student is a pioneer.

“Today we welcome our new youth’s Vaughan councillor, Sabrina Bruno, our first female Vaughan Youth City Councillor,” Mayor Linda Jackson said in council chambers.

The youth city councillor earns high school credit while championing youth-related issues as a non-voting member of council. Vaughan created the youth city councillor position in 2005, the first Canadian city to do so.

“I’m honoured to have been appointed to the position of the Vaughan youth councillor,” Bruno said after being sworn in. “I feel both privileged and grateful to be given this opportunity.”
