Staff to pick park locale

Following council’s lukewarm reception last week of the Off Leash Working Committee’s final report, councillors voted Monday to receive the report and instructed staff to begin choosing a site for the park.

The committee presented a report Dec. 3 that contained a ranked list of seven possible sites for city staff to consider.

Prompted by concerns voiced by councillors Sandra Racco and Peter Meffe, council asked the off-leash committee to prepare additional information — the original list of 32 possible sites, the criteria used in evaluating them and maps of the seven finalists — and to present the accumulated bumf back to council Monday.

The committee evaluated 32 sites in a series of meetings since February, arriving at what it felt were the seven most appropriate choices.

The matter is now in the hands of the director of parks development and other city staff.
