Dryers brought in, staff mop up after long-weekend leak at VCC

Rubber boots rather than heels or oxfords would have been the better choice for Vaughan Chamber of Commerce staffers returning to work after the Family Day long weekend.

A water tank sprung a leak sometime during the weekend, flooding the chamber’s Concord office, said communications director Stacey Starkman.

“We came in on Tuesday and there was an inch or two (deep) puddle on top of the carpet,” she said last week.

Dryers were brought in to deal with the moisture, and the process of ripping carpet and drywall out was started to avoid the possibility of mould growth.

“The computers were fine,” Starkman said. “All our data seems to be okay. We don’t seem to have any trouble with that.”

The flood did affect the chamber’s operations, prompting the release of a statement thanking members for patiently baring with officials as they dealt with their technical difficulties.

“It’s not the end of the world,” Starkman said. “It’s just a pain in the butt.”
