Company fined after accident
A Woodbridge company has been hit with a $50,000 fine in connection with an injury sustained by a worker.
On Aug. 8, Woodbridge Pallet Limited pleaded guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice to failing to ensure materials would not tip, collapse or fall endangering the safety of a worker, a contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
In November 2006, the employee, working inside a trailer, removed two-by-four planks holding sheets of plywood, which then shifted and fell, injuring the worker’s arm.
The court imposed a 25-percent victim fine surcharge on top of the $50,000 penalty. Under the Provincial Offences Act, the surcharge is deposited in a provincial fund meant to assist victims of crime.
