Gun seized after traffic stop
A traffic stop in Thornhill resulted in the thwarting of a potential home invasion in Midland, Ont. and the arrests of four people, York police say.
At about 12:30 a.m. on June 8, officers from 2 and 4 Districts stopped a vehicle in the Bathurst St. and Steeles Ave. West area. Inside were two men.
During the traffic stop, officers found a 9-millimetre handgun and ammunition, police say. They arrested two men, ages 23 and 36.
Officers had earlier received word the occupants of the vehicle may have been armed and were planning to steal drugs from a home in Midland, police say.
Acting on information received from Midland police, investigators in the 2 District Property Crime Unit executed search warrants at a home on Weldrick Rd. East in Richmond Hill and another in Toronto.
A marijuana grow-op consisting of 675 plants was discovered at the Weldrick home and ammunition was seized from the Toronto address, police say.
Sergey Korobkov, 23, of Richmond Hill, and Ali Ayoub, 36, of Toronto, face several gun-related charges. Korobkov also faces several drug-related charges.
Mikhail Nikashov, 20, of Richmond Hill, and Aleksandra Nikashova, 22, also of Richmond Hill, have been charged with production of cannabis and possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
