First day at Queen’s Park, new MPP wanders hall

“Good morning, Mr. Shurman,” repeated Queen’s Park staff as the rookie Thornhill MPP wound his way through the corridors of power Tuesday. Surprised, Peter Shurman said the warm greetings made him feel particularly welcome, especially since he’d never met any of them before — this was his first time ever inside the legislature.

City dumps on plan to double waste at local site

An application to the provincial environment ministry to let a Maple transfer station increase the amount of waste it handles met with unanimous disapproval at city council Monday.

In addition to the Halloween gourds, the site has bales of hay, cornstalks, costumes and other seasonal items for sale — as well as offering hayrides for the kids — as Vaughan starts getting ready for the end-of-October celebration.

Global Group’s seat of power

At 71 years old, Saul Feldberg still works 12-hour days.

After all, running one of Vaughan’s largest employers, making sure American presidents and Russian parliamentarians are comfortably seated is not your typical nine-to-five sort of job.
